2016 Membership Spotlight: Laura Covington Kimbrell

What is your name?
Laura Covington Kimbrell

Why did you get into the music industry?
I have always felt a deep personal connection to music. As a child I spent most of my free time listening to music, studying lyrics and using my amateur skills to analyze them. I was fortunate enough to earn a full scholarship to Belmont University (thanks to my golf skills) and then landed a job at TKO Artist Management shortly after graduating.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I go on tour with Toby Keith, working with building reps in the mornings to set up Toby’s Wild Shot Mezcal inflatable bar, then do various tasks throughout the day mostly related to the bar, then train bartenders when they arrive, educate local models that I’ve hired for the concert on the product, work the crowd leading up to the show, work during the show and entertain radio VIPs and guests on our bus after the show. I’m most proud that I’m able to handle these long hours on a regular basis without giving out!

What are you looking to learn from WMBA?
I love connecting with women in the music industry. WMBA is the perfect platform to meet women who work in all aspects of the industry.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
In 5 years, I see myself at TKO Artist Management with a broader range of responsibilities that are possibly more social media driven.

What was the first album you ever purchased?
I’m pretty sure the first album that I purchased with my own money was AC/DC “What Hits” on CASSETTE! The song “Under The Bridge” blew me away. I can still remember the way the liner notes smelled when I opened them.

What is your favorite book?
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

What is your favorite movie?
I have so many favorites but I always look forward to seeing A Christmas Story each year.

What song is always stuck in your head?
Typically, whatever song I heard last on my drive into work is the song that’s stuck in my head that entire day.

What’s one item we could always find in your fridge?
White wine. It’s pitiful. I don’t keep anything that expires within reason because I travel too much and end up having to throw it all away.

Where is your favorite place in the world?
Depending on my mood, Venice, Italy or Paris, France or Copenhagen, Denmark.

What’s something surprising about you?
I LOVE math 🙂
