2016 Membership Spotlight: Risa Binder


What is your name?
Risa Binder

Why did you get into the music industry?
I started writing songs about boys I had crushes on when I was in high school. I would play them and then my parents would ask..”who is that about?” And I would say ..”No one..I made it up.”

What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of touring as the opening act for Ronnie Milsap this past year and getting to perform at the Country Music Hall of Fame right after he was inducted.

What are you looking to learn from WMBA?
I’m excited to be a part of a community of women who are passionate about their careers in the music industry and I’m fascinated with how the behind the scenes works since I’m on the performance side.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself touring with my albumalong side other country music artists I love as well as continuing to uplift people by putting positive creative content out into the world.

What was the first album you ever purchased?
Muppets Christmas record haha!

What is your favorite book?
The Power of Focus

What is your favorite movie?
That’s so hard, I love so many movies especially movies that make me laugh.

I love awkward comedies so anything Judd Apatow does.

What song is always stuck in your head?
Right now I’m into starting my day by centering myself with a prayer so Lauren Daigle’s song “First” has been going around and around in my head.

What’s one item we could always find in your fridge?
Where is your favorite place in the world?
On a stage with my band performing. The most incredible feeling is putting on a super fun show for an audience and making people happy through music!

What’s something surprising about you?
I’m really great at knowing where the best dessert and coffee shops are while traveling two favorite things to do are sing and eat dessert!
